A view in the oven. The oven has just burned at 1060 Celsius and has just finished
This work is for the exhibition WAD SCULPTURES 2010 at World Art Delft. ‘The mission of WAD SCULPTURES is to promote the interaction between people and nature through art.
I am fascinated by the fact that clay,
originating from the earth, transforms itself into stone.
So strong but also so brittle. It’s a unique combination in
which the transitory phases are apparent and natural.
OWhat I love about clay is how it feels and that
touching it leaves a mark behind. It soft,
transitory, organic and you can keep kneading it
endlessly and change it by connecting, rubbing …and pondering.
However the softness slowly disappears when the clay piece dries.
In my work I want the organic and soft side of clay to remain
visible in the fixed stone piece so you can see its origins
The Tulip vase comes from the Royal Porcelain Delft, a classic model.
Instead of tulips there are kisses and the complete sculpture has been glazed in bright red.
A snake.
When I make a kiss, I usually make several and every once in a while something new is formed.
This is a sculpture composed of moulded parts that have been combined and formed by hand.
